The one thing to understand first

Most South Asian formal clothing is unstitched or minimally stitched — a saree, a dhoti and a dupatta are lengths of cloth, arranged rather than tailored. That's not primitive; it's a different design philosophy, one that fits any body, adjusts through a lifetime, and treats the weave itself as the point. The value sits in the cloth, which is why a good saree is inherited.
